ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ Greek Premier Costas Caramanlis commended the country's security services Wednesday for helping safeguard the Athens Olympics.

More than 70,000 law enforcement and military personnel helped to provide security during the Athens Games, an unprecedented operation that also involved NATO forces.

``I want to thank the men and the women of the security services for their very significant effort and the very good outcome,'' Caramanlis told officials at the Public Order Ministry.

He urged security services to remain at a high level of readiness for the Sept. 17-28 Paralympics.

``Of course this effort has to continue. No one should feel at ease,'' Caramanlis said.

Athens spent more than $1.5 billion on Olympic security, four times more than Sydney spent in 2000.
