New Bedford man convicted of 2012 club stabbing
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A 28-year-old New Bedford man has been found guilty of fatally stabbing another man whose body was found early on St. Patrick’s Day 2012.
The Bristol County district attorney’s office said a jury convicted Jose Carrion of second-degree murder Friday afternoon after deliberating three days.
Carrion was accused of killing 33-year-old Melvin Pina after a late-night encounter at an underground dance club in a New Bedford warehouse. Prosecutors had said Carrion stabbed Pina five times after Pina spilled a drink on him.
Pina’s body was found hours later in the backyard of a nearby house where police said he apparently collapsed.
Carrion is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday.
