Republic drops 1,300 customers in rural Oceana County; Residents left with few refuse pick-up options
About 1,300 people in rural Oceana County will have to find different means to have their garbage collected after Republic Waste Services announced Sept. 6 that the company would no longer be servicing the area beginning Sept. 29.
“As you are aware, Republic Services recently sent letters to 1,300 residential customers in Oceana County, letting them know that we would no longer be offering collection service in their area as of Sept. 29. As a courtesy, Republic listed several other waste collectors who may service the affected addresses,” the company’s media representatives said in an email. “We appreciate the opportunity to serve Oceana County and apologize for any inconvenience this service change may cause.”
Republic stated that the change comes due to “low levels of participation in the area.”
Republic Services would not comment on the specific area effected, but those who contacted the Daily News spanned from Shelby Township north to Weare Township.
