Steve Spurrier zings Redskins: ‘Not easy’ to win in Washington
Steve Spurrier won his first game as a coach in the Alliance of American Football Saturday night as his Orlando Apollos dominated the Atlanta Legends, 40-6.
The onetime Washington Redskins coach continued an impressive streak: He is 6-0 in his first game as head coach of a new team. It began with his debut coaching the USFL’s Tampa Bay Bandits, then at every stop in the college ranks and yes, even the Redskins in 2002.
The unique record wasn’t lost on the Ol’ Ball Coach, who zinged the Redskins in this postgame press conference:
So Spurrier is now 6-0 in first games coaching a new team. After the game he says:“6th team to win the first one. Even one when the @Redskins and that’s not easy to do” 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/8I712NhOvn Ben Murphy (@BenMurphyTV) February 10, 2019
Spurrier spent two seasons coaching Washington, went 12-20 and resigned amid differences he had with owner Dan Snyder.
