ATLANTA (AP) _ Georgia Republican Chairman John M. Stuckey Jr. has decided he won’t resign to protest losing a battle for control of the state’s delegation to the GOP National Convention, a party official said.

A group including party dissidents and supporters of television evangelist Pat Robertson won a majority of seats in the 48-member delegation in a decision by the Republican National Committee.

Stuckey, who had been in New Orleans to plead his case, left the convention city to return home and contemplate his future.

″He has definitely decided not to resign as chairman,″ state GOP Executive Director Lee Raudonis said Friday. ″He has decided to stay on and get on with the job of electing Republicans.″
