Mississippi man sentenced after 3 dogs starve to death
NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man has been sentenced to six months in jail and fined $2,500 after three dogs starved to death on his property.
The Natchez Democrat reports 45-year-old Kelvin King pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated cruelty to a dog. He received the maximum sentence for the first-offense misdemeanor.
King was arrested March 20 when deputies found decomposed remains of three dogs.
Adams County Justice Court Judge Eileen Maher told King the dogs “were left to starve, left to freeze.” King said he wasn’t staying on the property and thought the dogs were being tended but only checked on them by phone.
Maher told King that when he goes to jail, “they are going to feed you, they will give you water, and they are not going to freeze you.”
