Prosecutors clear Colorado Springs officer in shooting
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Prosecutors say they will not pursue criminal charges against a Colorado Springs police officer who killed an armed man suspected in a burglary.
KXRM-TV in Colorado Springs reports 41-year-old Jesse Schlegel was shot by a police officer in April after authorities say he brandished a handgun.
Authorities say Schlegel ran from a Colorado Springs business after officers responded to a burglary call at the building. The officer chased the suspect, later shooting him multiple times when the gun appeared.
Prosecutors say a loaded 9 mm pistol fell from Schlegel after he was shot. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
A toxicology report found the presence of several narcotics in Schlegel’s system, including a high concentration of methamphetamine.
