Navy Releases Names of Sailors Killed in Ship Accident With AM-Gulf Rdp, Bjt
WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Navy on Thursday released the names of the 10 sailors killed in a boiler accident aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima in the Persian Gulf.
The 10 were identified as:
-Tyrone Michael Brooks, 19, a boiler technician fireman recruit from Detroit.
-David Alan Gilliland, 21, boiler technician 3rd class, from Warrensburg, Mo.
-Mark Edward Hutchison, 27, boiler technician 2nd class, from Elkins, W.V.
-Daniel Lupatsky, 22, electrician’s mate 2nd class, from Centralia, Pa.
-Michael Nunnally Manns, Jr., 23, fireman from Fredericksburg, Va.
-Daniel Clayton McKinsey, 21, boiler technician fireman apprentice, from Hanover, Pa.
-Fred Russell Parker, Jr., 24, boiler technician 2nd class, from Reidsville, N.C.
-James Arthur Smith, Jr., 22, machinist’s mate 3rd class, from Somerville, Tenn.
-Lt. John Mather Snyder, 25, of Milltown, N.J.
-Robert Lee Volden, 38, boiler technician 1st class, from Rego Park, N.Y.
