Competency hearing in attempted murder trial set for June
Doctors who examined a Fort Wayne man accused of attacking two women in April with a hammer and then shooting them will testify in June about whether he is competent to stand trial.
Raymond O. Demby, 52, faces several felony charges in the attack, including attempted murder. Police say he broke into a home April 25 and attacked the women.
His lawyer filed paperwork in July stating Demby would rely on a defense of mental disease and defect. Two doctors were later appointed to examine Demby : one found him competent to stand trial; the other disagreed.
A third psychologist was appointed and found him competent. All three will testify June 14 in Allen Superior Court.
A judge scheduled the hearing today.
