Minor flooding possible for the San Antonio area on Wednesday

January 2, 2019

There is a potential for heavy rain along and east of Interstate 35 on Wednesday and Wednesday night, but not enough for flood warnings, the National Weather Service said.

In a bulletin and on its Twitter feed Tuesday afternoon, the weather bureau said 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are possible for South Central Texas, which could lead to minor flooding.

“We don’t think we’ll get the rainfall rates to support significant flash flooding,” said NWS forecaster Jason Runyen. “If anything, it will be chilly and cold tomorrow.”

The forecast for tomorrow is 38 degrees for the low and 43 degrees for the high, Runyen said.

The Hill Country, however, could see freezing rain overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday night, the service said.

“It will be pretty far to the north, pretty much north of Fredericksburg (and) Kerrville line,” Runyen said.
