Bridgestone-Firestone Moving Headquarters to Nashville, Tenn.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ Bridgestone-Firestone Inc. announced today it will move its headquarters to Nashville, Tenn., from Akron by the end of the year.
The company employs 1,350 people here but said the final number of employees affected by the move hasn’t been determined.
The Japanese-owned tire maker said every employee whose job is moved to Nashville will be offered the chance to relocate.
″We are making this announcement because of many rumors which have circulated both inside and outside the company,″ said James P. McCann, president and chief operating officer.
″We are not yet ready to announce the number of positions involved in the move but they will be identified as quickly as possible and every employee whose job function is transferred to Nashville will be given the opportunity to relocate.″
McCann said several locations were evaluated as possible headquarters locations during the company’s continued restructuring.
He said Nashville ″makes the best sense for us″ because of its central location to its plants and other Bridgestone-Firestone operations.
Bridgestone-Firestone has 200 salaried employees in Nashville, where its Bridgestone Tire sales and marketing operations are located.
