PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Salomon Torres was activated off the 15-day disabled list Friday to start that night's game against Atlanta.

The Pirates optioned outfielder J.J. Davis to Triple-A Nashville, a move that allows him to rejoin the Sounds in time for the Pacific Coast League playoffs.

Torres, who was 5-3 with a 4.43 ERA, went on the disabled list Aug. 8 with a strained right hamstring. He was injured shagging fly balls in San Francisco.

Davis spent 10 days with the Pirates after being called up from Nashville. He hit .267 (4-for-15) in seven games.
