Franklin Schlegel, 80, Juneau

Franklin Otto Schlegel, 80, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Clearview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Juneau.

Visitation will be at St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 to 10:50 a.m. A funeral service will follow at church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Stratman officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Franklin was born June 29, 1938, at home, to the late Art and Erna (Witt) Schlegel and later graduated from Waupun High School. On Nov. 7, 1959, he was united in marriage with Shirley Wolc at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Trenton. Franklin was a farmer in the Fox Lake area in his early years and then worked at the Dodge County Highway Department until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards, chatting with people, and watching westerns. Franklin was a huge Packers, Brewers and Badgers fan.

Survivors include his four children and their families, Kevin (Trish) Schlegel of Colorado and their family, Ashley (Henry) Thomas and their son Nico, as well as Austin, Dakota and Noah Schlegel; Greg (Dianne) Schlegel of Georgia and their family, Eric and Abigail Schlegel; Jeff (Sheila) Schlegel of Beaver Dam, and their family, Kayla Schlegel and Myah (Jacob) Bruins; and Melissa (Brent) Uttech of Beaver Dam and their family, Alexis, Shelby, Kaiser, and Cooper Uttech; other relatives and friends.

Franklin was preceded in death by his father, Art; his mother, Erna; his stepfather, Sam Buchanan; and his wife, Shirley in 2004.

If desired, memorials may be made in Franklin O. Schlegel’s name to St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
