October 29, 2003

NEW YORK (AP) _ Due to illness, Dawn Upshaw has withdrawn from her upcoming concert with the Berlin Philharmonic and Simon Rattle at the Isaac Stern Auditorium, Carnegie Hall announced.

Soprano Valdine Anderson will replace Upshaw in the U.S. premiere of Henri Dutilleux’s ``Correspondances″ on Nov. 13.

``I am deeply saddened and hugely disappointed to have to withdraw from this concert,″ Upshaw said in a statement Monday. She sang the world premiere of ``Correspondances″ in Berlin in September.

``It was exhilarating to have had the experience of premiering Henri Dutilleux’s beautiful, rich work with the Berlin musicians and Simon. I look forward to singing it again in the near future,″ Upshaw said.

She also has postponed her Zankel Hall recital with Gilbert Kalish, which had been scheduled for Dec. 5. The recital will be rescheduled.
