TVA Sets Power Record
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Hot temperatures pushed demand for Tennessee Valley Authority electricity to a new high Wednesday.
TVA set a peak demand record of 28,970 megawatts at 5 p.m. as the average temperature in the Tennessee Valley reached 95 degrees.
That broke the previous mark of 28,295 megawatts set on July 30, 1999.
The federal utility is the nation’s largest public power producer, supplying electricity to nearly 8 million people in Tennessee and parts of Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.
