MILAN (AP) — AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez will be sidelined for at least two weeks with a thigh injury.

Lopez sustained the injury while attempting to reach Mattia De Sciglio’s goal-bound back pass during the closing stages of Sunday’s 5-4 win at Parma.

Milan said on Monday that Lopez has a right thigh injury and will be reevaluated in a couple of weeks.

Lopez, who was signed from Real Madrid on a free transfer in the offseason, will miss Milan’s Serie A matches against three-time defending champion Juventus, Empoli and Cesena. He will be replaced either by Christian Abbiati or Michael Agazzi.

Milan also said defender Alex is struggling with bruising to a muscle in his right thigh and will undergo tests in the next few days.

The injury problems continued to mount up and Milan later announced that young midfielder Riccardo Saponara will undergo surgery after injuring his knee during a tackle in Monday morning’s training session.

Tests revealed “a sprain to the lateral collateral ligament and a flap tear to the lateral meniscus” and Saponara will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old will be out for a number of weeks.
