ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Rio Rancho police say a suspect has been fatally shot by officers in an exchange of gunfire following a vehicle pursuit.

They say the man hasn't been positively identified yet.

Police Capt. Ron Vigil says the exchange of gunfire took place about 7 a.m. Tuesday in west Albuquerque following a pursuit after officers responded to a shots-fired report at a location in Rio Rancho.

Officers tracked the suspect to a house in Albuquerque before he fled in a car and rammed a Rio Rancho police vehicle in the pursuit.

Vigil says no officers were injured in the shooting.

He says a multiagency task force is investigating the shooting, which comes as the Albuquerque metro area has seen more than a dozen shootings by law enforcement officers amid rising crime.
