MOHAVE VALLEY —The Dust Devils will be sending seven grapplers to the Division IV Arizona Interscholastic Association Wrestling Championships on Thursday-Friday at Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott.

Seniors Seth Solano, 170; and Ray Hernandez, 195; placed second, as River Valley High School finished fourth at the AIA Division IV, Section I Wrestling Tournament at Bourgade Catholic in Phoenix on Saturday.

Senior Sisco Wallema, 285, and junior Eli Davis, 138, came in third; and freshman Shawn Stice, 126, junior Alex Castillo, 132, and senior Anthony Gorrell, 182, each came in fourth.

“We took fourth as a team at Section, which is phenomenal,” said River Valley head coach Zack Regan by text message. “(It was an) exceptional performance by these young men.”

Solano beat the Odyssey’s Gunner Strassberg 16-1 after narrowly defeating Strassberg 5-4 two weeks ago.

Hernandez pinned Parker’s Jose Lopez, 195, who he had lost to earlier in the season, at the section event.

“So, their wrestling speaks for itself,” said Regan by text message about Solano and Hernandez. “They are performing very well.

“Ray is wrestling as a top wrestler today and is proving he deserved to be at state.”
