Akron man robbed in home by armed intruder

AKRON, Ohio — A man was robbed of about $600 cash early Thursday morning after he awoke in his home to find an armed intruder rummaging through his pockets, police say.

Police say the victim, who lives on the 200 block of Nicholas Street in the Ellet neighborhood, was shaken awake at about 4:30 a.m. upstairs in the home by the suspect, who had a handgun. The suspect was going through the victim’s pockets looking for money.

After taking the cash, the male intruder ordered the victim downstairs and demanded car keys and a cell phone.

The victim told the intruder he didn’t know where the keys and phone were. After searching the house, the suspect ran from the rear of the house.

The girlfriend of the victim was in the home at the time of the robbery but managed to escape the house, police say.

No injuries were reported and police have made no arrests.
