OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Jason Giambi and Ed Sprague homered and the Oakland Athletics turned three errors into five unearned runs, routing the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 9-2 Sunday.

Tom Candiotti (11-15) won for the third time in four starts, allowing one run and five hits in seven innings. Since his record dipped to 5-13 on July 26, Candiotti is 6-2 with a 3.29 ERA in eight starts.

Julio Santana (5-3) lost for the first time in 10 starts since July 13 at Boston, giving up six runs _ just three earned _ and five hits in 3 1-3 innings. He had been 3-0 with six no-decisions in his previous nine starts.

Oakland shortstops Aaron Ledesma and Dave Silvestri made costly errors, as did center fielder Randy Winn.

Fred McGriff hit an RBI double in the first, but Matt Stairs singled in a run in the bottom half.

Sprague's 20th homer put Oakland ahead for good leading off the second. and the A's added another run when Miguel Tejada scored from third on the back end of a double steal. With two outs, Ledesma made a throwing error on Bip Roberts' grounder and Giambi hit his 25th homer on the next pitch, a three-run drive that made it 6-1.

Matt Stairs reached on Silvestri's throwing error in the fifth, and Esteban Yan walked Ryan Christenson and hit Sprague with a pitch, loading the bases. Tejada hit an RBI grounder, and Winn dropped A.J. Hinch's fly when he attempted a basket back, allowing two runs to score.

McGriff added another RBI double in the eighth.

Notes: Tampa Bay won the season series 6-5. ... Rickey Henderson left with a bruised left shin after stealing his 58th base in the second inning. ... Ben Grieve has one hit in his last 17 at-bats.
