Memorial leads SBISD in all-district football voting
Spring Branch ISD football challenged for a playoff spot in a competitive, nine-team District 17-6A this past season. The district also found some success in postseason voting, with 16 players honored on the all-district teams.
Memorial had the most all-district selections with 10 after improving its win total for the second consecutive season. The Mustangs defeated rival Stratford for the first time in four years. Both teams finished 4-6.
Senior offensive lineman Hayden Eschete, senior tight end Davis Koskie, senior defensive lineman Jimmy Jongebloed, junior linebacker Nick Haas and senior defensive back Zach Reynolds made the 17-6A first team for the Mustangs. Koskie led Memorial with 23 catches, good for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Reynolds led the team with four interceptions.
Senior offensive lineman Miles Prator, junior defensive lineman Rocco Silvestri, senior linebacker Jack Chenowith, senior defensive back Matthew McHenry and junior punter Matthew Sanders represented Memorial on the all-district second team.
Stratford placed receiver D’Marquez Henry and senior offensive lineman David Flainik on the first team. Henry, who made the second team as a return specialist, led the Spartans with nine touchdowns including one on a kick return and two rushing. He amassed 19 catches for 366 yards and six touchdowns.
Senior receiver Grayson Pendergraft, junior offensive lineman Eddie Velasquez and senior linebacker Wills Graham made the second team.
Senior fullback Paul Garcia represented Spring Woods on the second team.
