Willow Ridge development grows
The housing development planned for the land occupied by Willow Ridge Golf Course in and just outside Huntertown just got bigger.
The Allen County Plan Commission on Thursday unanimously voted to allow a 16-lot expansion on the north side of the previously approved development of 301 single-family homes.
The approvals came in the form of a requested rezoning of about 5.5 acres from agriculture/estates to single family residential and an amended primary development plan for The Communities of Willow Ridge.
The additional lots are on the south side of the 1300 block of West Shoaff Road in Perry Township.
The expansion would allow for an entrance to the development from Shoaff and would make for better school bus routing, Patrick Rew, planning department staff member, told the plan commission.
Oakmont Development, Fort Wayne, represented by Mike and Jeff Thomas, proposed both the original development and the addition.
The two, doing business as Soaring Eagle Development LLC, Fort Wayne, also are behind a second development the plan commission unanimously approved Thursday.
That development had been called Rustic Farms, but the name has been changed to Majestic Pointe.
Majestic Pointe would bring 91 single-family homes to a 38.3-acre site in Eel River Township along Carroll Road just east of Hand Road.
No nearby residents spoke for or against the new homes at a public hearing last week.
Both housing areas are to be served by Huntertown water and sewer.
Rezonings must be passed by the Allen County commissioners. Changes to development plans stand if the plan commission approves them.
