CARY, N.C. (AP) _ The Senior PGA Tour added a September tournament at Prestonwood Country Club to its schedule Thursday.
The SAS Championship will be played Sept. 21-23. It replaces the LiquidGolf.com Championship, an event planned for Georgia that folded three months ago because of sponsor problems.
The $1.6 million tournament will be North Carolina’s third senior event this season. The Vantage Championship is scheduled the previous week in Clemmons, and The Home Depot Invitational was held in Charlotte in May.
Cary-based SAS Institute, the world’s largest private software company, has committed to sponsoring the event through 2003. In 2004, the tournament will move to the Tournament Players Club at Wakefield Plantation in north Raleigh.
Prestonwood has three 18-hole courses. The senior event will be played on a combination of two of the courses.
