Police ID pedestrian injured in hit-and-run at 35th Avenue and Leavenworth
A pedestrian who was injured Saturday when he was hit by a vehicle at 35th Avenue and Leavenworth Street has been identified.
Christopher Vavra, 33, of Omaha, was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition with a head injury, but he is expected to survive his injuries, Omaha Police Officer Pat Soltys said.
Vavra was listed in serious condition late Sunday morning, according to a medical center representative.
The vehicle involved left the scene, according to 911 dispatch reports.
The incident, which was reported about 10:30 p.m., occurred in the westbound lane of Leavenworth outside The Down Under Lounge.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a blue, four-door Chevrolet Cobalt, the initial reports said. Authorities said the car would be missing a passenger side mirror.
