ACCUTANE LAWSUIT

TRENTON — New Jersey’s Supreme Court has dismissed more than 500 pending lawsuits against the maker of an acne drug that caused some patients to develop a gastrointestinal disease. The court ruled Wednesday that Hoffmann-LaRoche’s warning labels for its Accutane treatment were adequate. Plaintiffs have contended the warnings should have said Accutane “causes,” rather than “is associated with,” inflammatory bowel disease. SENT: 130 words. UPCOMING: 250 words by 2 p.m.

TOYS R US

— A group of investors is planning a comeback for Toys R Us, in the latest twist for the troubled retail brand. The group, made up of secured lenders, said Tuesday it’s scrapping an auction for intellectual property assets because it didn’t receive any bids that were better than its own. The investors said they’ll work with potential partners to develop new ideas for stores in the U.S. and other countries “that could bring back these iconic brands in a new and re-imagined way.” SENT: 472 words, photos.

— PAINTBALL ATTACK-TEEN INJURED — Authorities say a New Jersey teenager was shot multiple times at close range by someone wielding a paintball gun.

— WORKER KILLED-DRIVER CHARGED — A woman who admitted she was driving drunk when she struck and killed a recycling company employee earlier this year has been sentenced to six years in state prison.

— FATAL CRASH-STOLEN CAR — A teenager who was driving a stolen car when he caused a fatal crash last year is now headed to state prison.

— CHARITY SCAM-CHARGES — Police in New Jersey say a woman set up a fundraiser for 3 teenagers whose mother died this year and then pocketed the proceeds.

— HERRING FISHING — Fishing managers in New England are asking the federal government to take action to try to reduce the possibility of overfishing in the herring fishery.
