Near Fight Between Rangers, Tigers
DETROIT (AP) _ The Texas Rangers’ and Detroit Tigers’ benches and bullpens cleared as the first inning ended Thursday afternoon, but no punches were thrown.
After Detroit’s Bobby Higginson hit a grounder and was called out at first as pitcher Ryan Glynn covered the base, Glynn appeared to say something to Higginson.
When Higginson turned around to approach Glynn, players from both sides ran out of their dugouts and their bullpens.
On his second pitch to Higginson, Glynn had thrown high and inside, moving Higginson away from the plate.
Before the second inning began, home plate umpire Bill Welke and Detroit manager Phil Garner met on the mound with Tigers pitcher Jeff Weaver.
