Firearm deer season opens Saturday
NORFOLK - Hunters across Nebraska have been purchasing permits and getting their guns ready for firearm deer season that starts Saturday
Northeast District Manager of the Nebraska Game and Parks Lucas Negus says hunters should keep safety the top priority in the field by always keeping their rifle muzzle pointed in a safe direction with the safety on.
Negus says hunters should also identify their target and what lies beyond it, and must wear 400 square inches of blaze orange on their head, chest and back.
He says during the nine day season hunters have to bring their deer to a check station.
“There’s a big list of where each station is located when you purchase your deer permit. Archers can also hunt during the firearm deer season and they need to bring their deer to a check station as well. The stations are often manned by a biologist who gathers age and other biological information from the deer.”
