Richmond 84, James Madison 80

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) _ Jarod Stevenson made 5 of 6 free throws after a personal foul and two technical fouls were called against James Madison on Wednesday night, and Richmond went on to beat the Dukes 84-80.

Stevenson was fouled by James Coleman with 4:49 remaining and the Spiders (7-14 overall, 3-8 Colonial Athletic Association) leading 69-66. He made the front end of the one-and-one, then made all four free throws assessed on the technicals to boost Richmond’s lead to 74-66.

Richmond also got the ball, and Rick Edwards’ jumper made it 76-66.

James Madison (5-18, 1-9) rallied to within 80-78 with 42 seconds remaining, but another free throw by Stevenson with 38 seconds left made it a 3-point game and the Dukes didn’t score again until four seconds remained.

Eric Poole also scored 20 points for Richmond, as well as grabbing nine rebounds, and Edwards had 14 points.

The Dukes, outrebounded 32-18 for the game, were led by Darren McClinton with 27 points and Eugene Atkinson with 20.
