Time of suicide film’s reception, screening changed
The time of a reception and screening of The S Word, a documentary about families of suicide victims and survivors of suicide attempts, has been changed since The New Mexican published a story about the events earlier this week.
The reception for the movie has been changed to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, with the screening now scheduled for 6 p.m. The second screening is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Filmmaker Lisa Klein said the goal of the film is to make more people aware of the problem of suicide, to help alleviate the shame and guilt survivors carry, to start having more public conversations about the topic, and hopefully persuade people not to look away from survivors of suicide attempts and their stories.
Cheryl Brown of Santa Fe is an executive producer of the film who lost both her son and ex-husband to suicide. A retired psychoanalyst, Brown has been working with people affected by suicide and suicide attempts and was recognized in 2015 as one of The New Mexican’s 10 Who Made a Difference.
