DARYL DRAGON OF THE CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE DIES

NEW YORK (AP) — Tennille still stood by The Captain until the end, even though their musical partnership and their marriage was long over. A spokesman for Daryl Dragon of The Captain and Tennille says Toni Tennille was by Dragon’s side when he died yesterday of renal failure. Dragon was 76. Tennille says in a statement Dragon was “a brilliant musician” and she was at her most creative when she was with him. Their hits together include “Love Will Keep Us Together,” ″Muskrat Love” and “Do That To Me One More Time.” They briefly had a TV variety show but quit because Dragon did not like being on camera. They divorced in 2014 after 40 years of marriage. Before The Captain and Tennille, Dragon played keyboards for The Beach Boys. It was Mike Love who gave him the nickname “The Captain” because of the sailor’s caps he always wore.
