IOWA HEMP _ Iowa legislators must create rules to regulate hemp production in the state now that Congress has legalized the crop, though advocates are concerned that slow action or rigid restrictions will hurt producers’ abilities to cash in on the crop. SENT: 330 words.


FOR PROFIT COLLEGE SETTLEMENT _ An Illinois-based for-profit college has agreed to reform its recruiting and enrollment practices and forego collecting about $493 million in student debt owed by 179,529 students nationwide.

MAYOR HARASSMENT-PLEA _ A Council Bluffs man accused of threatening the city’s mayor and other city employees has pleaded guilty again and been sentenced to jail.

BANK HEIST-LE MARS _ A Sioux City woman accused of helping a man rob a bank in Le Mars has pleaded not guilty.

SISTER SLAIN _ A judge has scheduled a hearing later this month to announce his verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing his sister in northwest Iowa.



WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. _ Surging Purdue resumes conference play Thursday when it hosts No. 25 Iowa. The Hawkeyes have won five straight but their only two losses this season came against Big Ten foes.
