Man denies charges he robbed taxi driver, stole his cab
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield man has pleaded not guilty to charges he held a gun to a taxi driver’s head before robbing him and stealing his cab.
The Republican newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1JY6o4Q ) 25-year-old William Ramos was arraigned Tuesday on a carjacking charge. He was held on $200,000 bail.
Prosecutors allege Ramos and an accomplice flagged the cab down on Saturday night. They say Ramos then placed a firearm against the driver’s neck and ordered him to give him money.
Prosecutors say the two men forced the driver out of the cab and took off with it. Police are still searching for the second suspect.
Ramo’s lawyer says her client was at his girlfriend’s apartment at the time of the carjacking. The case was continued for a pretrial hearing next month.
