Amber Twp. Board to talk marijuana opt-out Tuesday
AMBER TWP. — The Amber Township Board will hold a special meeting Tuesday to discuss opting out of allowing recreational marijuana businesses to operate within the township’s jurisdiction.
Township Supervisor James Gallie said the board is only considering action regarding recreational marijuana — not medical marijuana, as a notification in Friday’s Daily News suggested.
“We’re automatically out of medical marijuana unless we want to opt in, where this one for recreational marijuana is that we have to opt out,” Gallie said.
Gallie said he has been in communication with other municipal leaders and city officials as townships across the state weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks of allowing the sale of recreational marijuana in Michigan communities.
