Family files lawsuit in fatal shooting by US Park Police

August 3, 2018

WASHINGTON (AP) — A lawsuit has been filed by the family of a northern Virginia man shot to death by U.S. Park Police.

Lawyers for Bijan Ghaisar’s family say no one has said why park police pursued the 25-year-old man last November, nor why family members weren’t allowed to see him in the hospital before he died. In the lawsuit filed Friday, attorneys said 250 days have passed since the shooting without any information being released.

The lawsuit being filed Friday names the United States of America and John Does 1-10 as defendants and seeks $25 million in compensatory damages.

Ghaisar was shot nine times at the end of a chase that began with a minor accident on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. He died 10 days after the shooting.
