Football: Clear Springs races past George Ranch, 42-28
Clear Springs used Kaleb Hymes’ 59-yard punt return to ignite an early uprising, leading the Chargers to a 42-28 win over George Ranch Friday night for Springs’ first victory of the season.
Following Hymes’ return, the Chargers received touchdown runs of 11 and 5 yards by senior running back Todd Hudson in opening a 21-7 lead.
George Ranch scored on a 50-yard Hail Mary pass as time expired in the first half for a 21-14 score.
Charger quarterback Garrett Rooker then scored on a 7-yard run on Springs’ first possession of the third quarter before hooking up with Isaiah Bibb on a 58-yard pass at the 5:28 mark for a 35-14 Charger lead.
The bulge expanded to 42-14 after a 42-yard run by Hymes’ set up the final Charger touchdown.
George Ranch scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, but couldn’t complete its comeback.
Clear Springs finishes its non-district schedule at 6 p.m., Saturday when it hosts Katy in Challenger Columbia Stadium.
