Española gun dealer sentenced to two years in federal prison
An Española firearms dealer was sentenced this week to 24 months in federal prison for illegally selling weapons, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albuquerque announced in a news release.
Robert Real, 56, also was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque to three years of supervised release, a $10,000 fine, and 50 hours of community service for falsifying records and making false statements to law enforcement agents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
In pleading guilty in June, Real admitted that from March 12, 2016, to Feb. 24, 2017, he avoided and ignored several legal and administrative restrictions on federally licensed firearms dealers, the statement said. The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts.
