Charges tossed against Maine man in kid threat
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A disorderly conduct charge has been dropped against a Portland man who was charged with threatening children at a school playground in the Maine city.
Thirty-two-year-old Derek Weeks was at the Reiche School playground with his child in February when police say he made harassing and derogatory statements to seven third- to fifth-graders about their race and threatened to shoot them. He made a gun gesture with his hand.
No weapon was displayed or found.
Weeks was charged with seven counts of criminal threatening and interference with constitutional and civil rights. The Portland Press Herald reports (http://bit.ly/14Nbw7p ) those charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal. A judge on Friday discharged the remaining count, disorderly conduct, without conditions.
