US Coast Guard rescues 4 fishermen in Puerto Rico

January 17, 2014

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has helped rescue four fishermen whose boat capsized along Puerto Rico’s north coast.

Authorities say two of the fishermen were rescued Friday after swimming for hours and launching several flares from the water. The other two fishermen were rescued Thursday night, including one who used a flashlight to alert the Coast Guard to his location.

The group had gone fishing Thursday morning, and their boat capsized around noon. Authorities say someone along the coast alerted authorities after spotting a red flare out at sea.

All four men were wearing life vests.
