CRUHSD board approves contract for fieldhouse GM

September 19, 2018

BULLHEAD CITY — The Colorado River Union High School District’s governing board voted Tuesday to approve a contract with Gary Boren, hired last week as the general manager for the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse, the future home of Mohave and River Valley high school athletics events.

Boren, who ran Jones-AT&T Stadium and United Supermarkets Arena at Texas Tech University, will be in town Friday to sign the contract, board President Kari Hoffman said.

The contract calls for a base salary of $85,000, and stipulates that the school district will pay $7,500 in moving expenses. Other provisions include $50 a month for mobile phone service and up to $200 monthly in reimbursement for food and entertainment expenses.

District officials have said that among the general manager’s responsibilities will be booking events for times when the CRUHSD or its feeder districts are not using the arena. Trade shows, regional tournaments and conferences are among other potential uses.

Boren is scheduled to start Oct. 1. He also oversaw operations at the Lubbock (Texas) Memorial Civic Center.

The fieldhouse is under construction near Highway 95 and Bullhead Parkway South. It was part of a $35 million bond package approved by CRUHSD voters in 2016. The building is expected to open in the spring.

Board members removed from the agenda a pair of items related to a separation agreement with former Supt. Riley Frei, who resigned in July.
