2019 Rural Recognition banquet is coming up quickly

January 16, 2019

It’s time to put the date on your calendar for the upcoming 2019 Rural Recognition Banquet. This year’s 51st annual salute to agribusiness professionals will be Tuesday, March 19, at Platte County Ag Park.

The Chamber’s Agribusiness Committee is this week announcing the winners of their annual awards, who will be honored at the banquet. The Committee congratulates:

2019 Outstanding Woman in Agriculture – Carla Berlin

Outstanding Senior Farmer – Galyn Johannes

Outstanding Area Farmer – Robert Larson

Agribusiness Pioneer – Pig Express

Ag Impact Award – Mac Hull/Tasty Toppings

The Ag Committee had some difficult choices to make for this year’s honorees as they had plenty of talented professionals in the nomination pool. Those attending the banquet will be impressed and inspired in hearing the stories of these honorees!

General admission tickets to the event are $20 and they are now available at the Chamber office. You can also reserve a spot online at www.thecolumbuspage.com.

Tickets are complimentary to any ag producer through the sponsorship of the local business community. The strong showing each year of those sponsors indicates the local business community understands the value of agriculture from the field to “mainstreet” and the recognition that agriculture is Nebraska’s No. 1 industry.

I would encourage anyone in agriculture to take advantage of the complimentary tickets. We really do appreciate the contributions of the ag community to our region’s economy and the lifestyle that we enjoy and want to see many producers there for the banquet.

The Chamber’s Agribusiness Committee shares the evening with the Platte County Ag Society and Platte County 4-H program, as they also honor their outstanding volunteers that evening. So you will also learn the 4-H program’s “Friends of 4-H” award-winners and those who will receive the Meritorious Service Awards from 4-H as well.

Also today, a reminder that the Chamber will start the new year for our Legislative Committee with the annual Legislative Kick-off Breakfast on Monday morning, Jan. 21st featuring State Sen. Mike Moser. Sen. Moser will bring us information and impressions from the early days of his first legislative session as our State Senator. The Chamber will be actively involved in advocating for some specific pieces of legislation in this session of the Unicameral and those issues will be discussed at the breakfast.

The Chamber has always appreciated the dialogue the Legislative Committee and members have had with our State Senators. The same was true of Sen. Moser when he was Mayor of Columbus. So we are confident the tradition will continue that we will have a Senator who is open to hearing from constituents and the business community. You can reserve a spot for the breakfast on-line at www.thecolumbuspage.com or by calling the Chamber office.

K.C. Belitz is the outgoing president of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce.
