Coroner IDs Two Drivers Who Died in Colo. 66 Crash West of Longmont

October 8, 2018

Police close off Colo. 66 west of Longmont after a fatal crash.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed in a head-on collision west of Longmont last week as Gary Kohlbeck and Patricia Boynton.

Kohlbeck, 53, is from Lake Zurich, Ill., while Boynton, 83, is from Estes Park.

The Colorado State Patrol said Kohlbeck and Boynton were each driving Subarus on Colo. 66 in opposite directions when Boynton crossed the center line west of 75th Street, striking Kohlbeck’s vehicle.

Both Kohlbeck and Boynton were declared dead on scene. A woman who was riding with Kohlbeck was taken by ambulance to Longmont United Health and later airlifted to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital in Lakewood in serious condition.

The woman, who was 54 and also from Illinois, has not been named, and there was no update on her condition available Monday.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash.
