Education notebook: Representatives from Spokane Valley, West Valley high schools to bring student voices to school board
The West Valley School District has sworn in two students as student school board representatives. Machaelin Cordova is a junior at Spokane Valley High School, and Amber Sety is a junior at West Valley High School. They will be responsible for touring all schools in the district to report to the board about events, activities and any concerns. Both students will attend school board conferences and be involved in district events alongside other board members.
EVSD meetings to focus on security
East Valley High School will be hosting informational presentations on school safety ahead of the Nov. 6 vote for the capital levy for safety, security and facility improvements in all East Valley School District schools.
Presentations will discuss funding and tax breakdowns for the levy and plans for safety improvements in the schools, including secured single points of entry, security cameras, notification systems and several other safety and building improvements.
All meetings will be held at the EVSD administration office board room, 3830 N. Sullivan Road, Building 1. The remaining meetings are scheduled for Oct. 17 and 24, 6 p.m.
EVHS benefit auction set for Oct. 13
East Valley High School will be hosting the 14th annual “A Knight at the Auction” on Oct. 13 at the Spokane Valley Event Center, 10514 E. Sprague Ave., Spokane Valley. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first table closes at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds will support EVHS sports teams and activity clubs. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door and include a catered dinner and beverages. A no-host cash bar will be available. Tickets can be purchased online at squareup.com/store/evhs-booster-club or at EVHS event concessions.
Vaping information night at Mt. Spokane
Mt. Spokane High School will hold a Vaping Information Night for parents and the Mead community, presented by Jared O’Conner of the Poison Control Center. Oct. 8, 6:30 p.m., Mt. Spokane High School theater, 6015 E. Mt. Spokane Drive.
