UMass Lowell Hockey Team Staying Home As BU Falters

March 10, 2019

LOWELL -- For fans who like watching the UMass Lowell hockey team play at the Tsongas Center, thank-you cards can be mailed to Orono, Maine.

In the final regular season game of the Hockey East season, host Maine defeated Boston University, 6-0, on Saturday night.

If BU had won, the Terriers would have hosted UML in a best-of-three quarterfinal series.

But fourth-seeded UMass Lowell (18-11-5, 12-7-5 HE), which finished its regular season with a 2-2 tie Friday at Vermont, will now host fifth-seeded BU (14-16-4, 12-9-3 HE) at the Tsongas. UML finished with 29 points in league play, two more than BU.

Game 1 is Friday at 7:15 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday at 7 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be held Sunday at 4 p.m.

The teams split this season, with UML winning 5-3 at BU on Dec. 7 and BU skating to a 5-2 win in Lowell the next night.
