CLEVELAND (AP) _ Indians minor leaguer Kyle Denney, who was struck in the head with a line drive while pitching for Triple-A Buffalo in June, was recalled by Cleveland and placed on the 60-day disabled list Monday.

The Indians made the move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

Denney's skull was fractured when he was hit in the first inning of his last start for the Bisons on June 26 against Durham. The right-hander, who went 1-1 with a 5.12 ERA in nine starts for Buffalo, recently pitched a simulated game.

Last season, Denney was shot in the leg when someone fired at the Indians' team bus in Kansas City.
