Pedestrian ‘severely injured’ after being hit by ambulance Thursday night in downtown Aiken
Aiken Public Safety was called to a collision between an ambulance and a pedestrian Thursday night at the intersection of Laurens Street and Rutland Drive in downtown Aiken.
First responders arrived to the scene around 9:30 p.m. Thursday and found the victim suffering from “serious injuries,” said Lt. Jake Mahoney, with Aiken Public Safety.
EMS transported the victim to an Augusta hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.
Investigators determined the ambulance driver was heading west on Rutland Drive when they struck the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the intersection, Mahoney said.
The agency is still investigating the incident.
