5 Ejected in Giants-Rockies Game
DENVER (AP) _ Right-hander Matt Morris was ejected in the first inning of the San Francisco Giants’ game at Colorado on Sunday after plunking two of the five batters he faced.
Home plate umpire Travis Reininger also tossed manager Felipe Alou and pitching coach Dave Righetti.
Reininger ejected Morris for hitting Eli Marrero with his eighth pitch after he had been warned when he plunked Matt Holliday two batters earlier.
Right-hander Kevin Correia replaced Morris.
In the eighth, Rockies pitcher Ray King was ejected by Reininger for hitting Giants shortstop Omar Vizquel, and Colorado manager Clint Hurdle also was tossed.
On Saturday night, Rockies pitcher Jose Mesa hit Vizquel with a pitch in the eighth inning.
Mesa has vowed never to forget Vizquel’s ripping him in his 2002 autobiography. The two played together in Cleveland from 1992-98 but their friendship ended when Vizquel criticized Mesa for blowing the save in Game 7 of the 1997 World Series against Florida.
