Cunard Orders New Liner From Italy
LONDON (AP) _ Cunard Line has ordered a $400 million, 1,968-passenger liner from an Italian shipyard to serve the British travel market, the company said Friday.
The ship is to be delivered by Fincantieri builders, based in Marghera, Italy, in January 2005.
Cunard Line, owned by Carnival Corp., operates the 1,791-passenger Queen Elizabeth 2 and 668-passenger Caronia.
On order is the 2,620-passenger Queen Mary 2, scheduled to join the fleet in late December 2003.
``We are thoroughly committed to expanding our presence in the U.K.,″ said Pamela Conover, Cunard’s president and chief operating officer.
