Former officer arrested on murder charge after shooting
MAGNOLIA, Miss. (AP) — A former police officer in southwest Mississippi faces a murder charge after a shooting.
Pike County Sheriff Kenny Cotton tells local news outlets that Gregory Robinson of Magnolia was arrested after the shooting death of 52-year-old Rene Jones.
The shooting happened Sunday at Robinson’s home. Cotton says Jones was shot once in the head and his body was found in the back of Robinson’s truck. Investigators say the two men got into an argument.
Robinson was indicted in 2003 for his alleged involvement in a prostitution ring with teenage girls. He was fired from his police job. The District Attorney’s office dropped charges against him because of problems with the alleged victim’s testimony.
Robinson remains jailed without bail. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could speak for him.
