CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) _ Steve Jeltz was walked by St. Louis’ Greg Barger to force in the winning run as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Cardinals 3-2 Monday.

Pinch-hitter Joe Lefebvre began the ninth inning with a double to right- center. Luis Aguayo singled to right field, with Lefebvre stopping at third. Greg Gross was walked intentionally before Jeltz walked on a 3-1 pitch.

St. Louis got single runs off starter Shane Rawley in the first two innings. Jack Clark doubled in a run in the first, and Ozzie Smith had a run- scoring hit in the second.

The Phillies tied the score in the second on RBI singles by Rick Schu and Jeltz, who leads the team with a .444 average and nine runs batted in.

Steve Carlton pitched five scoreless innings for the Phillies in a 6-2 victory over the Cardinals in a morning ″B″ game. He gave up four hits, walked one and struck out two.
