Stone Soup CLE sets 1st golf fundraiser

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Stone Soup CLE is hosting its first golf outing to raise money for the not-for-profit food-rescue group Sunday, Sept. 30.

The inaugural outing is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch at 1:30 p.m. at Links Golf Course, 26376 John Road, Olmsted Township. Admission includes snacks, prizes, beer and barbecue. Tickets are $75. It will use a scramble with a shotgun start.

Stone Soup CLE is Cuyahoga County’s only free food rescue and redistribution organization, collecting mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and redistributing to partner organizations.

“I feel like I have a lot of friends who are golfers – a lot of young friends who are golfers,” said Stone Soup’s Giovanna Mingrone. “We wanted to do something that is not your grandfather’s golf outing. We tried to make it really affordable.”

Golf signup is filling, but there is room for hole sponsors, volunteers and donations. Sponsors include Great Lakes Brewing Co., Lake Erie Creamery and Ohio City Pasta. Cuyahoga Community College students are serving as volunteers, Mingrone said.

Those who cannot attend but want to support the organization can do so via PayPal.
